Adventure Cross

For all the little riders with boundless energy who would rather go over rocks and logs, and through puddles than around them. Calling all kiddos who would consider a day in the dirt living their best life and are a slightly disproportionate combination of sweet and scrappy. This is your race. The Strider Aventure-Cross is for all the 14x riders ages 4-6 years old and combines running, riding in balance mode, and pedaling all in one awesome race. This is a test of endurance and skill with a longer course that covers a wide variety of terrain with grass, mud, rocks, single track, and puddles. There are four stages in this dynamic race, one of which includes a pit stop where a guardian attaches the pedal kit to the 14x so the racer can pedal power through the finish line. An epic day for both racer and spectator, the Strider Adventure-Cross should be on the top of every rowdy toddler’s bucket list.

This Strider Adventure-Cross race is a unique Strider take on a Cyclocross race but with a few fun twists!

This race is only for racers age 4-6 years old (on September 9th, 2020) on Strider 14x Sport bikes. No Strider 12 bikes are allowed due to how this particular race will be run.

Unlike some of our other races, this is a race of endurance over a longer period of time and skill a lot like a Cyclocross race! It will be a somewhat difficult course so please be sure that your racer is up for this challenge.

The format of this race will be the following:
  • Stage 1:

From the starting line the racer will run approximately 600 feet (no bicycle)
  • Stage 2:

One parent or guardian will then hand off the bike (in balance bike mode – no pedals) to the racer to race on for approximately 1600 feet
  • Stage 3:

Next will be a Pit Stop where one parent will attach the pedal kit (Strider 14x Easy-Ride Pedal Kit) onto the bike
  • Stage 4:

After the pedal kit attachment is completed by the parent or guardian the racer will continue on in pedal mode for another approximately 3600 feet to the finish line

The course will have a wide variety of terrain and obstacles including hard surfaces, single track, grass, mud, water obstacles, rocks, and obstacles and places where the racer will have to dismount and climb over or around the terrain and other generally difficult stuff! We are expecting this could take as long as 20 to 30 minutes to complete. There will be sections of the course that will be done in laps.

We are excited to be partnering with the DAKOTA FIVE-O folks and their awesome event on the same day (Sept. 6th)

Our race will be on September 6th starting and finishing at Spearfish City Park.
We will be starting by the stage and will have the tentative following schedule:

  • 10:00 am – 12:45 am:

Packet Pickup and Check-in at the Strider vendor tent at the festival. We’ll have our tent next to the Log Cabin “Spearfish Community Building” to the right of the stage.
  • 12:35 pm – 12:55 pm:

Open course (warm-up but don’t get burned out!)
  • 1:00 pm:

    Rider’s Meeting
  • 1:05 pm:

    Race start!
  • 1:05 pm – 1:35 pm:

Race (Our best guess for how long it will take to finish the course is the time anywhere from 15 minutes to 30 minutes)
  • 2:00 pm:

Podium ceremony for top 5 finishers!

An explanation about the “Pit Stop…One parent or guardian will be assigned a particular area where the racer will come to after the balance bike mode portion of the race is done and that parent will then attach the pedal kit to the bike as fast as he/she can and then give the bike back to the racer so they can continue the race in pedal mode. Please reference the rules for specific information as there are several issues that need to have compliance to stay within the structure of the race.

We will only be having one race and registrations will be limited to the first 30 registrants.

All registrations will have to be made online prior to September 4th at noon Mountain Time. There will be no registrations after that time or on race day.

All racers will receive either a trophy (top 5 finishers) or a medal, a custom souvenir number plate and a bunch of cool items in the registration bag! Medals will be presented immediately after finishing.
